Over one day, Rachel will take actors on a whirlwind tour of three classic broad-scope regional accents that appear most frequently in casting breakdowns:
.General Northern
.London
.Scottish

You'll explore the key characteristics that define each accent, including sound changes, rhythm, musicality, placement, and the features that distinguish them from one another. Rachel will also discuss the references and real-world examples that actors can use when preparing for auditions, helping you develop a clearer understanding of what casting directors are often looking for when they use these broad accent labels.

Through a series of practical exercises, listening work, and performance-based activities, you'll learn how to identify the building blocks of each accent and apply them in a believable, authentic way. The emphasis will be on giving you a toolkit that can be taken into the audition room and developed further in your own practice.

There will be opportunities to work on text, experiment in a supportive environment, and receive feedback as you build confidence in trying out new vocal choices. The course is suitable for actors of all experience levels, whether accents are completely new territory or something you've explored before.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have a stronger understanding of what these broad accent categories mean in a casting context, where to begin your research, and how to approach them with greater clarity and confidence. Most importantly, you'll leave with practical techniques that can help you respond more effectively when that next audition request lands in your inbox.to.

Rachel is an established voice and dialect coach who has worked in the industry - Theatre, T.V. and film - for over 25 years. Having herself begun her career as an actor, Rachel has a deep understanding of the needs of a performer and the vocal challenges they may face.
With a Masters in Professional Voice Practice, gained in association with the RSC Rachel’s clients include Oscar nominees, Bafta award winners as well as those working regularly in the West End and on Broadway. Theatre, TV and film companies she works with include Netflix, Amazon, Warner Brothers, BBC, Apple TV, Disney, Royal Court and National Theatre.
